Education:
Matthew Rhyner is currently pursuing a degree in Jazz Studies and Performance at the University of Stevens Point. He is a recipient of the Dorothy E. Vetter Percussion Scholarship and the UWSP Wind Band Scholarship. He is actively involved in the Jazz Band at the University of Stevens Point and University of Marathon County. He actively plays in a jazz sextet and a jazz trio at the University of Stevens Point. He has performed with the UWSP Symphony Orchestra, UWSP Wind Ensemble, UWSP Concert band, the UWSPercussion Ensemble, and the UWSPercussion Ensemble hand drumming group. He has played drum set in the productions of "CATS", "Thoroughly Modern Millie" , "Spring Awakening" along with playing percussion in the production of "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat"and "Spring Awakening". Matthew was also a member of the Collegiate All-Star Percussion group at the 2012 Percussive Arts Society Wisconsin Chapter. In the summer of 2007 his band had the opportunity to perform at the Vans Warped Tour and also had a week long tour in Northern and Central Wisconsin. Matthew has played with artists such as 60th Cycle, Ryan Cass, Unsung Hero, Octopus, and Savings Cities. He can be heard on 60th Cycle's album Selfless Pursuit, Ryan Cass' solo album, Unsung Hero's album "Somewhere You Can Let Yourself Go", and Saving Cities self titled EP.
Matthew has been teaching drum set through out his college career. He emphasizes the melodic aspect of playing drums and gives his students a different perspective of sound and feel of the drums. He incorporates both traditional and modern ideas to give the student a well-rounded understanding of the instrument.
